I know it’s done with good intentions but I hate that Marinette’s loved ones dissuade her from giving up on Adrien

Especially Tikki

She knows that Adrien and CN are the same person and therefore he does love Marinette

But she also knows that secret identities are risky business and that getting romantically involved with each other, regardless of whether or not they’re wearing their masks, is going to make things messy

It’s one thing to support Marinette’s crush, but another to try convincing her to put herself through a world of pain because it might maybe possibly pay off in the future

The girl is suffering just let her move on

The fact that Tikki knows that Adrien and Chat Noir are the same person, makes all of this even worse to me because out of everyone in Marinette’s life, she’s the one character who’s the most aware of not only everything Marinette’s been through regarding Adrien, but also everything Chat Noir has put her through.

Tikki (should be) aware that he’s been pushing her boundaries, that he’s been less than mature about respecting her feelings and has even put the city in jeopardy over it (which should doubly bother her with how much she values putting duty over yourself). At the same time she’s also privy to how much hurt and humiliation Marinette has had to endure JUST to simply get Adrien’s attention, despite her being the same girl he’s supposedly in love with. Given her position, Tikki should be like us with what we know and how we view his actions from an outsider perspective. But Oblivio has her subtly suggesting to Marinette over the Ladynoir kiss that maybe she just needs to learn more about Chat, and now Puppeteer 2, she’s encouraging her to continue pursuing Adrien.

It’s even worse when you factor in Frozer where Adrien as Chat Noir acts passive aggressive and petty about Ladybug’s rejection while she knows that he’s on a date with ANOTHER GIRL, which he asked Marinette to help him out on.

Yet all we ever get from her in that episode is a helpless shrug when Marinette is trying to comprehend what she agreed to. And then in the bathroom, instead of providing comfort or asking “are you okay Marinette?” she asks, “Why are you upset?” as if she was completely oblivious of Marinette’s feelings for Adrien that she can’t understand why she’d be unhappy in this situation.

Any sensible friend would not be encouraging a relationship like that, especially when this boy has caused someone she cares about a lot of pain on both sides of the mask. The best way to reason Tikki’s actions is that she’s probably thinking that it’ll eventually work out since their feelings are “mutual.” But the reality is that this is just what the show wants us to believe. That all these detours and backtracking and “hijinks” (ie humiliation) Marinette gets into will pay off, but none of what happens justifies this reasoning. It’s just unnecessary drama and makes Tikki look completely out of touch regarding Marinette’s emotional well-being.

We have Plagg telling Adrien in Stormy Weather 2 that Ladybug (who he knows is Marinette) “stood him up” and told him she was in love with someone else, to point out to Adrien that she wasn’t as great as he thinks, and suggested that he pursue someone else.

So why is it that Tikki can’t do the same for Marinette especially with everything that she’s aware of??

Recently got hooked on “Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Chat Noir.”

I have to confess: I felt guilty about liking Chat Noir but not Adrien. I love how energetic, optimistic, pun-tastic (yes, I love lame puns), chivalrous and flirty he is in costume, but thought his civilian persona as Adrien was kind of bland; nice but forgettable.

And I felt so terrible–like, how can I like the affect he puts on but not the real Adrien?

Then I learned from a webisode that he considers Chat Noir the only time he can be himself.

And then I felt better about liking Chat Noir since that is “the real Adrien,” while the nice, polite, but kind of reserved and closed off Adrien is the affect he puts on - most likely to please his neglectful yet exacting father, his many fans, and his few friends at school.

Yet… how sad. He constantly feels pressure to put on this perfect persona to please his father, his many fans, and his friends. No one knows the real him; they just know the perfect persona he put on. and he’s afraid of making waves by being himself

But then that made me realize… Marinette has this obsessive crush on Adrien, the pretty polished boy she sees every day, but she just finds Chat Noir annoying.

I don’t think Marinette is a bad person, but I think it’s tragically ironic that for all her obsessive crushing on Adrien, she doesn’t love the real him–in fact, she finds the real him annoying.

Though to be fair to Marinette, Adrien isn’t much better. Their situations are similar but reversed. He loves her confident, assertive, kickass persona as Ladybug, but finds the “real” Marinette - clumsy, forgetful, absent-minded - “just a friend.” (Plus, he’s the master of mixed messages - acts suave and flirty one minute, insists she’s “just a friend” the next.)

I guess it’s fair to say that, for now, Adrien and Marinette both love the idealized versions of each other. Marinette loves the perfect polished version of Adrien that he maintains out of fear of losing his father and friends’ love, and he loves the cool, confident, kickass superhero persona she has to adopt as Ladybug.

I don’t know if this will ever be explored in the show proper, but I’d love it if the show creators ever acknowledged this. (Also, I still ship them, don’t get me wrong. This is not an anti or critical post. Just thoughts about this pair.)
